Expanding icons make outcomes legible, yet feature frequency matters more than a headline multiplier.

Solar Pharaoh original editorial artwork illustrating expanding symbols

Mechanic in one minute

Solar Pharaoh is our original visual model for the expanding symbols family. The purpose is to explain how attention, rules and money interact without embedding a playable product. A typical version starts with a paid round, evaluates the symbol layout and then applies the named modifier according to the game rules. The order matters: a cascade, multiplier or held symbol may resolve before or after another feature, and the information panel should specify that sequence.

Compare the paytable and bet level before interpreting any example win. Treat every animation as a presentation layer. The auditable facts are the stake, winning pattern, feature trigger, probability model, caps and the final transaction recorded in game history. Sound, speed and near-miss framing can make a neutral random event feel like progress.

How to read the feature

First identify what starts the feature. It may be a symbol count, a random trigger, a meter or a result on a separate wheel. Next ask whether the feature changes only presentation, the number of evaluated positions, or the paytable itself. Finally, note when every temporary state resets. A persistent-looking object may reset after the paid round, after a bonus, after a timeout or when the stake changes.

Write the stake as one unit and express each return in units. A bright “20” looks large until you notice the round cost was 25 units. Recording net change rather than gross win prevents the interface from turning recycled stake into perceived profit.

RTP and volatility

RTP is theoretical and long-run. If a verified rule sheet lists 96%, that does not mean A$96 returns from every A$100 session. Actual short samples can land far above or below the theoretical average. Volatility describes that dispersion. The high label suggests the session can vary materially, but labels are not standardised across every provider.

Do not compare two titles using marketing badges alone. Compare the exact configured RTP, bet range, feature purchase options, maximum exposure per round and rules. If the information is missing or contradictory, the evidence grade should fall.

Safer observation worksheet

  1. Use demo mode only if it is lawful and available; do not assume demo statistics equal every real-money configuration.
  2. Set a timer and write a fixed zero-value observation count before starting.
  3. Record trigger, stake units, gross return and net change without changing stake.
  4. Stop at the planned count even if a meter appears “close”.
  5. Never convert a short observation into a claim that a feature is due or profitable.

Bottom line

Expanding icons make outcomes legible, yet feature frequency matters more than a headline multiplier. The best use of this page is vocabulary: know what the feature does, which questions belong in the rule sheet and which visual cues should not influence a financial decision. Random rounds remain random; an impressive sequence is not a pattern to follow.
